About this time of year, I get antsy for the landscape to come to life. That’s why I try to time things so that I’m in the UK for February and March, because then I get to see the snowdrops and crocuses and primroses open up and my spirit is lifted at the time I need it most.

Woke up early to thunderstorms that were already building. The sky broke into downpours that lasted a good hour or so and then stopped, leaving a gray sky to linger the rest of the day.

This is one of those vistas that made me think of the scene from Lawrence of Arabia in which TE Lawrence and Sherif Ali stood at the edge of Nefud Desert, which of course they had to cross in order to attack Aqaba by the land.
