Bierstadt Lake

Monday afternoon. Well-rested after an exhausting eclipse viewing excursion, we embark on a proper mini-break. We drive up to Estes Park for a three-night stay in the Old Caretaker’s Cottage at McGregor Mountain Lodge. Upon arrival, the cabin delights. It’s spacious, bright, clean, comfortable. Equipped with full-size fridge, comfortable recliners, and calming mountain views. Better than The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua.

By the time we got to Zion National Park, I had racked-up what I can only characterize as a rather measly post-op hiking record. I had completed just two modest hikes, both of which had left me entirely wiped me out.
